After a day away or a busy morning, Outlook can pile up reminders for events that are already over. Dismissing them one by one is a distraction and hides the reminders that still matter.

Classic Outlook has a setting in its Advanced options that dismisses reminders for past calendar events automatically. The same section has the switch to turn reminders off altogether.

    Open the reminder options

    Click File > Options and select the Advanced tab. Find the Reminders section.

    Dismiss reminders for past events

    Check Automatically dismiss reminders for past calendar events. If you also want no reminders at all, even for future events, uncheck Show reminders.

    Click OK to save and apply the settings.

Tips and common problems
